Starting college can be stressful for all students—no matter their age or circumstances. The transition can be particularly challenging for students who have experienced trauma.

Postsecondary educators can help minimize the negative effects of trauma by creating welcoming learning environments and supporting students as they develop resilience.

A new guide provides classroom- and campus-level strategies, as well as important things to keep in mind for college instructors, administrators and student services professionals.

OLN

Oregon Leadership Network

What began in 2000 as an eight-district demonstration project has grown to more than 20 districts, representing nearly half of the state’s student population. OLN continues to build the capacity of education leaders to support equitable policy and practice.

Rural Education

Includes NW RISE and Native Education

Rural educators do the same important and courageous work as their urban counterparts but often in isolation, without access to professional development and collaborative learning opportunities. Education Northwest is a national leader in addressing the professional learning and networking needs of rural educators.

IYS

Institute for Youth Success

Playing a vital role in supporting youth programs, the Institute for Youth Success has merged with Education Northwest to create a full-service, innovative regional center to support best practices at youth-serving organizations.

Federal Projects

REL Northwest

Regional Educational Laboratory Northwest is one of 10 regional educational laboratories across the nation dedicated to improving the use of research and data in policy and classroom practice. REL Northwest is funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences.

Northwest Comprehensive Center

The NWCC is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and provides high-impact training and technical assistance to state education agencies in the Northwest states. Our work focuses on the priorities of educator effectiveness and school improvement.
