Education Northwest partners with schools and organizations to incorporate educational equity into policies, procedures, and classroom practices to address achievement and opportunity gaps and support the success of all students.

Evaluation

A fresh, independent evaluation of your programs, policies, and student outcomes is a powerful way to identify needs in your school or district and to start important conversations about equity in your community. Education Northwest takes the time to understand your community and cultural environment before identifying disparities and helping improve programs, practices, and systems.

LEAD Tool

This resource is designed to support your school’s or district’s leadership team and to improve equity outcomes for all students. By working through the 10 high-leverage, research-based equitable practices outlined in the tool, you will be able to better understand your current practice and progress and to see where there is room for improvement.

Bringing together leaders to focus on equity and equitable practices is never easy. Reach your goals with an independent and experienced facilitator who supports your efforts to incorporate equity into policies, procedures, and classroom practices.

Resources to Address Discipline Disparities

Implications for School Practice and Policy
This edition of Principal's Research Review looks at the extent and cost of exclusionary discipline practices, research on improving school climate, and resources available through the federal government. The conclusion includes a section on what school leaders can do right now.

Eliminating Disparities
This article in Principal Leadership examines the research on disparities in exclusionary discipline policies and practices. The author points out that disproportionate suspension and expulsion rates are more often the result of inequitable discipline practices than differences in behavior between students of color and their white peers.

Leader – Equity in Education Systems

Shadiin leads the Oregon Leadership Network and works on Indian Education projects in the Northwest Comprehensive Center. She has an English degree from Yale University and a master’s in educational leadership and doctorate in critical and sociocultural studies from the University of Oregon.
