Description

Education Northwest improves educational results for children, youth, and adults by providing research and development assistance in delivering equitable, high-quality educational programs. Education Northwest is a private, nonprofit corporation which has served the Northwest region since 1966 as its Regional Educational Laboratory under contract with the U. S. Department of Education, as well as other federal, state, and local agencies and organizations.

This position will provide leadership and manage staff and contractors working on multiple e-learning and web-based collaboration projects in the Center for School, Family, and Community. Provide leadership and vision efforts to expand markets for e-learning and web- based technical assistance projects across the organization. The project manager fosters a culture of innovation and teamwork that encourages new product development, process improvement, and production agility. This position works with clients to determine scope, schedule, and budget of projects, and manages staff and a variety of external contractors to ensure that projects meet client expectations and user needs. This position is housed in Portland, Oregon, and reports to the director of the Volunteer Leadership Center.

Duties

Supervisory Responsibility: A minimum of 3 FTE direct reports to include, a team of instructional designers, web developer, and multimedia developer. Staff supervision may also include curriculum/content developers.

  • Identify and build strategic relationships and networks that enhance organizational ability to access new markets for an array of e-learning products and services.
  • Provide leadership and input toward building organizational capacity for successful development of e-learning and technical assistance as a signature line of work, including contributing to the development of funding proposals.
  • Provide leadership regarding cutting-edge practices in e-learning, methodologies, social media applications, and online knowledge networks and communities of practice..
  • Provide vision and leadership to teams of staff, subcontractor and services contractors engaged in the Center’s e-learning and other online technical assistance projects
  • Set priorities for and effectively manage the Center’s e-learning and technical assistance projects, ensuring delivery of products and services that meet the needs of clients and users. Oversee related sub-budgets (approximately $1 million) and prepare progress reports for program officers.
  • Lead staff and contractor team processes, including field teams as appropriate, through project phases that include needs assessment, gap analysis, design, development, delivery and evaluation.
  • Interact effectively with funding agency staff (at Headquarters, state, and field levels) and make recommendations to program officer regarding work plan revisions and directions.
  • Develop and facilitate productive working relationships between a variety of internal and external teams and stakeholders.
  • Apply adult learning theory, effective instructional design and technology practices into the design and development of products and services that may include interactive online learning products, webinars, online courses, job aids, and online communities of practice and knowledge networks.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Professional Qualifications

Education/Training: Masters in education, instructional design or technology, nonprofit management, organizational development or related field required.

Experience/Qualification Requirements: The successful applicant should have all of the following skills, knowledge, and abilities

  • Three years minimum, five years preferred, successful experience providing staff supervision and leadership.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and expertise in e-learning methodologies, web-based technical assistance strategies and technology implementation.
  • Five years experience in organizing, managing and implementing complex projects.
  • Five years experience designing, developing, and delivering e-learning and web-based products and services.
  • Proven expertise in process improvement to increase organizational efficiency and effectiveness .
  • Excellent human relations, leadership, teambuilding, project organization and management skills. Demonstrated ability to facilitate diverse teams toward high productivity and effectiveness.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Conversant in technology trends and tools, including but not limited to: mobile development, social learning, Flash, rapid prototyping tools, next generation development tools (e.g. HTML5), Moodle and Drupal as development platforms, etc.
  • Experience in graphic design, interface design and/or usability testing preferred.
  • Able and willing to travel frequently, including air travel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Sit for prolonged periods of time, finger dexterity for the operation of a personal computer, operate a telephone, frequent interruptions to concentration, interact with a wide range of clients and co-workers.

Compensation

Salary range: $67,896 - $116,334 per year based on experience, plus a benefits package that includes vacation, generous employer paid retirement, medical, dental, life insurance, transportation benefit, and opportunities for ongoing professional development.
