
This publication presents research about reading to help adolescents become good readers. It provides insights to secondary school educators so they can meet the reading needs of nonproficient students through the application of research-based school practices. NWREL's annual needs assessment identified improving secondary reading as a high priority for teachers and administrators. It can be used by a secondary school team, study group, or individual staff members seeking strategies to improve student reading, or with a trainer or consultant as part of the NWREL Onward to Excellence Focus on Reading professional development program.
