Although there is considerable research on the value of professional learning communities, there is little research on how schools develop them. The PLT process outlined in this guide provides guidance and strategies for teachers and school leaders to effectively develop these communities in coordination with their school improvement plans. This guide supports both a theoretical foundation for PLTs and concrete advice on getting ready for PLTs, building support structures and relationships, and reinforcing PLT skills.
