Teams will use Noble High School as the laboratory. They will see and hear the work of Noble High School, then consider how to apply key elements in their own school, as they work toward establishing and strengthening smaller learning communities.

Facilitators also coach visiting teams in the process of action planning.

Our process puts educators at the center of their own learning. Each Design Studio provides opportunities for participants to conceptualize and draft a plan for changing their own educational environment in a collaborative setting. Teams will leave invigorated and ready to move forward with SLC implementation.

Who Should Attend
A visit to Noble may be useful to any team looking to see effective, sustainable and deeply embedded small learning communities. We began teaming at NHS 16 years ago. Participation in the SLC project has helped us strengthen and further imbed personalization into our practice. While we are a rural, largely white school, we believe learning about our practices can inform other schools, regardless of size, demographics or location. Our hope for Design Studio participants is not that you will adopt our practices, but that seeing the way we have implemented SLCs will help you move forward with your own SLC work.

Participants will benefit from and interactive multi-day workshop that includes action planning, observations of classes, interviews with staff members and students, and networking with other high schools.

This Design Studio workshop is designed for five (5) high school teams from schools interested in developing Smaller Learning Communities. Teams may include Principal/Administrator, Project Director/Site Coordinator, and three teachers and/or counselor.

Registration

Cost is $2,300.00 for a team of 5. Additional participants can be added at a cost of $500/person. Teams of less than 5 will be charged full registration fee.
