Sessions will be in workshop format with on-site coaching by practitioners and technical assistance providers to help teams solidify their plans and troubleshoot anticipated barriers.

Participants will leave the institute with ideas and plans for their school's redesign that they can share with their local school and district teams. Building on the success of the 2008 and 2009 conferences, this institute will feature:

  • Presentations by practitioners with "in the trenches" experience in transforming high schools
  • Half/full-day pre-institute workshops on June 27
  • Personalized coaching sessions that will give teams and individuals access to expertise as they tackle the intensive work of instructional improvement and structural change
  • Tools and materials for improving classroom practices, differentiating instruction, teaming, aligning core and CTE, expanding leadership, and supporting students for all postsecondary options
  • Motivational keynote sessions, networking luncheons, and exhibits showcasing a range of resources available to schools and districts...

Founding Principles

The institute planning committee and partners recognize the merit of offering high school education in all types of learning communities in which students are well known and supported, and learning is linked to real world experience. This institute is founded on the principles of equity in students' access to meaningful instruction and high expectations; fairness and justice in the allocation of resources; and cultural responsiveness in instruction and policies.
