The 2014 NCCEP/GEAR UP Annual Conference celebrates the 15th anniversary of GEAR UP with the theme, “A Dream Realized,” reflecting the tremendous accomplishments of the GEAR UP community, as well as the ongoing commitment of so many dedicated professionals and outstanding state and partnership grant programs across the country.

Education Northwest Researcher Changhua Wang will be presenting in the following session:

Quality and Sustainable College and Career Readiness Services for GEAR UP Students Via Strong Partnerships with Community Colleges

Wyoming and Hawaii will share their years of experiences in working with community colleges in reaching out to secondary schools. Their external evaluator will also share his observations on how GEAR UP has stimulated systemic changes at the higher education level in serving low-income students. Attendees of this session will learn:
Foundations of effective partnerships;

  • Practical tips in dealing with conflicting priorities of GEAR UP and community colleges;
  • How matching is generated from community colleges;
  • How to build a program that will last beyond GEAR UP; and
  • Evidences of successes in partnership with community colleges
