Join us June 20-21, 2018 in Portland, Oregon
We know how much teachers care about helping all their students reach their potential as writers. Our new 6+1 Trait Writing institute addresses one of the greatest challenges teachers face today: how to scaffold instruction for diverse learners—including English language learners, students with special needs and gifted and talented students—so that all students in your classroom become stronger, more confident writers.
Our 6+1 Trait Writing institute series is one of the premier professional development opportunities for educators in the country. Hosted by the organization that created the innovative and proven 6+1 Trait Writing model, this institute provides the training and tools to improve the way you teach and assess student writing. This institute is designed for educators (in any grade level or subject area, including special education or English language learner classrooms); literacy coaches or trainers; curriculum specialists; and/or school or district administrators.
During the institute, participants will:
- Expand their knowledge of how to apply the 6+1 Trait Writing model systematically and effectively in their classrooms
- Explore the needs of student writers from special populations that include English language learners, students with special needs, and gifted and talented students
- Take home scaffolding strategies and tools that apply the 6+1 Trait Writing model and other research-based practices to improve writing for diverse learners
Our institute creates a supportive environment in which teachers learn to communicate more effectively with diverse student writers about the elements of quality writing. In addition to learning to evaluate student writing across all seven traits of effective writing, participants receive support in creating detailed, grade-specific, trait-writing instruction that aligns with the rigorous college and career readiness standards. They’ll also enjoy the support and insights of fellow participants as they explore proven teaching practices and classroom-tested resources.
