The next 6+1 Trait Writing Trainers' Institute will take place December 9 - 11 in Chicago, Illinois. This advanced institute, for those well-versed in Education Northwest's 6+1 Trait Writing Model of Instruction & Assessment, guides educators in designing and delivering in-district trait-based writing workshops.
Participants - typically literacy coaches, teacher leaders, administrators, and curriculum coordinators - will review the research and instructional strategies that support the 6+1 Trait Writing framework; then delve into topics such as balanced literacy, curriculum mapping, lesson design, and more. Prerequisites for attending are participation in a comprehensive introductory trait institute and classroom experience using the traits.
Roberta Young, who during her teaching career was named Texas Language Arts Teacher of the Year, will facilitate the institute. Young will engage participants in hands-on activities as she guides them in designing workshops for individual schools, teams of educators, new and seasoned teachers, and diverse districts. Throughout the three days, adult learning strategies will be modeled and discussed.
The institute will be held at Chicago's historic InterContinental Hotel--considered one of the most beautiful landmark hotels in the city. Shopping at the Christkindlmarket Chicago, viewing Lincoln Park Zoo's Zoolights, and ice skating in Millennium Park are a few activities visitors can enjoy in December.
Institute details are available on the event page.
