United by a common mission to improve the lives of our children and communities in the Northwest, the Institute for Youth Success (formerly known as Oregon Mentors) will merge with Education Northwest effective August 15, 2015. This merger will create a full-service, innovative regional center to support best practices at youth serving organizations. This new endeavor will be called the Institute for Youth Success at Education Northwest.
“As a founding member of the Institute for Youth Success, I realized quickly that a merger with Education Northwest would strengthen and broaden our reach and ultimately benefit more children,” said Ken Thrasher, founder of Institute for Youth Success and former CEO of Fred Meyer, Inc.
“This merger strengthens our capacity to provide effective services that meet youth where they are—in schools and in the community,” added Steve Fleischman, CEO of Education Northwest. “We are very excited about the opportunity to expand the work that the Institute for Youth Success has been doing in Oregon since 2001.”
The Institute for Youth Success at Education Northwest will be located at the Education Northwest offices in Portland, OR. “The integration of both organizations will take place immediately, and my team and I are thrilled to create this regional center for youth serving organizations,” said Celeste Janssen, former Executive Director of the Institute for Youth Success. Janssen will serve as a Director and lead the Institute for Youth Success at Education Northwest. “Together, with Education Northwest, we’ll have the capacity to work with more nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and community efforts that are trying to improve outcomes for students.”
The Institute for Youth Success at Education Northwest will continue to fundraise locally and to work with partners in Oregon and throughout the Northwest to advance best practices. The funds raised at an October 14, 2015, luncheon featuring Karen Pittman, CEO of the Forum for Youth Investment and a national expert on youth development, will be targeted specifically to support the Institute for Youth Success at Education Northwest.
