An Investigation of the Impact of the 6+1 Trait Writing Model on Grade 5 Student Writing Achievement

This scientific study conducted in 74 Oregon elementary schools showed that the 6+1 Trait Writing model caused a statistically significant increase in student writing scores during the year in which it was studied.

Student Reported Overt and Relational Aggression and Victimization in Grades 3–8

This REL Northwest report analyzes survey data collected from a sample of students in grades 3-8 to learn more about aggression, victimization, and approval of aggression among elementary and middle school students.

What are the Characteristics, Qualifications, Roles, and Functions of School Support Teams? An Examination of Survey Results for Four Northwest Region States

This report—published in late December 2010— analyzes the characteristics, qualifications, roles, and functions of school support team members in four Northwest Region states in 2009/10.


How Well Prepared and Supported Are New Teachers? Results for the Northwest Region From the 2003/04 Schools and Staffing Survey

This study, published December 2010, provides statistics on the preparation and support of public school teachers in Northwest Region states and nationally.


Institute of Education Sciences guide

This Institute of Education Sciences guide identifies practices that can improve the performance of chronically low-performing schools—a process commonly referred to as creating “turnaround schools.”


New and Experienced Teachers in a School Reform Initiative: The Example of Reading First

This study compares the experiences and perceptions of new and experienced teachers in 235 schools in six western states (Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Washington, and Wyoming) that have adopted the Reading First school reform initiative.

The most comprehensive effort to date to study Indian education policies, the report categorizes the Indian education policies of the five Northwest Region states based on 13 key policies identified in the literature and describes the legal methods used to adopt them.
