Trait-Based Writing

This advanced institute is for trait-experienced literacy coaches, teacher leaders, administrators, and curriculum coordinators wishing to conduct their own in-district, 6+1 Trait trainings. Participants should have already taken a 6+1 Trait Writing workshop and have used the 6+1 Trait Writing model in the classroom.

An Investigation of the Impact of the 6+1 Trait Writing Model on Grade 5 Student Writing Achievement

This scientific study conducted in 74 Oregon elementary schools showed that the 6+1 Trait Writing model caused a statistically significant increase in student writing scores during the year in which it was studied.

In June 2009 the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the National Governors Association (NGA) announced a joint venture to establish Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
