If you are out and about this afternoon, you may hear bells ringing. They will ring from Washington, D.C. to Juneau, Alaska and in hundreds of locations in between. They will ring to mark the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. They will ring to honor Martin Luther King's speech, delivered on this day at 3:00 pm EDT.
As we reflect on the events of 50 years ago, we are inspired. Today, Education Northwest's Volunteer Leadership Center is training hundreds of VISTA volunteers who are taking up the challenge to improve this great nation, working with local communities to fight poverty. Equity continues to be a top priority at Education Northwest, but we know there’s more work to do to ensure success for each and every student.
The bells ring out today to remind us of the good that has already been done, and the good we can accomplish in the future by working together.
