This edition of NASSP's Principal’s Research Review, written by Education Northwest’s Rhonda Barton, explores both the difficulties and positive aspects of teaching in a rural community. Barton uses the research to suggest several strategies rural districts are using to recruit and retain effective educators. These include preparing teachers for the realities of rural life, providing opportunities for professional development, and recruiting for high-needs categories.
