Description

Education Northwest improves educational results for children, youth, and adults by providing research and development assistance in delivering equitable, high-quality educational programs. Education Northwest is a private, nonprofit corporation which has served the Northwest region since 1966 as its Regional Educational Laboratory under contract with the U. S. Department of Education, as well as other federal, state, and local agencies and organizations.

This position contributes to Education Northwest by supporting, identifying, coordinating, and providing services to nonprofits engaged in the Corporation for National and Community Service’s Social Innovation Fund (SIF) grant program. The Senior Advisor works closely with grantee organizations to support their capacity building efforts by assessing needs, identifying resources, delivering technical assistance, and supporting the development of a community of practice among issue area groups. This position is responsible for providing direction for training and technical assistance activities and working closely with researchers to capture successful evidence-based practices and models.

This position is housed in Portland, Oregon.

Duties

  • Assess, plan, design, oversee, manage, and coordinate training and technical assistance activities
  • Collect information on SIF grantee needs and monitor progress of efforts
  • Develop new products and services for the grantees and their subgrantees
  • Coordinate the development of new projects and services
  • Collaborate with other Education Northwest programs and staff
  • Assist in resource development for the program
  • Present findings to clients, colleagues, other Education Northwest programs, and/or other nonprofits regionally or nationally
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Professional Qualifications

Education/Training: Masters or other advanced degree in education, nonprofit management or related field required.

Experience/Qualification Requirements: The successful applicant should have all of the following skills, knowledge, and abilities

  • Five years experience in designing and delivering technical assistance to nonprofits
  • Experience with and understanding of social innovation, social entrepreneurship and/or nonprofit management
  • Knowledge of and skills in effective professional development for adult learners
  • Knowledge and understanding of qualitative, naturalistic research methodologies
  • Specialized knowledge in social innovation, specifically related to scaling, building capacity, and/or evaluation preferred
  • Seven years experience working with or in nonprofits to build their capacity to provide service preferred
  • Three or more years experience facilitating and supporting adult learning preferred
  • Experience supporting and facilitating online communities of practice preferred
  • Other duties as assigned.

Problem Solving:

  • Prioritizing work to meet deadline requirements, including due dates for multiple, time-sensitive deliverables
  • Selecting appropriate resources that support the work of the grantees
  • Designing and delivering effective training workshops, reports, presentations, and educational products to meet varying audiences
  • Managing and analyzing data
  • Initiating when and how to collaborate with Program Directors and other staff for the completion of projects

Accountability:

  • Utilizes Education Northwest procedures for quality control compliance
  • Self-directed with minimal oversight by supervisor
  • Overall work is reviewed during annual performance evaluation

Performance Factors: (i.e., attendance, communication and relationships)

  • Strong communications skills, both written and oral
  • Supportive and productive relationships both internally with colleagues and externally with clients

Budgetary Responsibility:

  • Responsible for managing budgets of smaller projects and sub-tasks on large federal contracts.

Physical Demands/Conditions:

  • Sit for prolonged periods of time, finger dexterity for the operation of a personal computer, operate a telephone, frequent interruptions to concentration, periodic extended or late work hours, and interaction with a wide range of clients and co-workers.
  • Including overnight stays out of state (2-3 times per year anticipated)
  • Ability to travel by car or common carrier for out of state and rural travel

Compensation

Salary range: : $53,303 - $91,287 per year based on experience, plus a benefits package that includes vacation, generous employer paid retirement, medical, dental, life insurance, transportation benefit, and opportunities for ongoing professional development.
