Education Northwest salutes Oregon’s Chief Education Officer Dr. Nancy Golden for an inspirational career serving students and the state of Oregon. As Nancy retires from her 42 years of service, she leaves behind an education system that is better because of her contributions.
From her role as a school district leader to her leadership in education policy, Nancy has demonstrated a deep commitment to students, families, and educators, as well as to her community and the state. She has been unwavering in her commitment to educational equity, acting as a leader and advocate in cultivating a climate of inclusion and supporting the achievement of each student. Under Nancy’s leadership, Oregon advanced the development and implementation of its unique equity lens to highlight the need to effectively serve all students and eliminate educational disparities across the state.
Nancy is widely respected and admired for her knowledge and ability to articulate the urgency in addressing the achievement gap and accelerating student success. Because of her courage and capacity to provide leadership for equity, she was also honored by the Oregon Leadership Network with the Tom Ruhl Leadership for Equity Award in 2012.
