These materials are designed to help you score trait writing with consistency and to clarify the entire process of assessment. If the traits are new to you, be ready to meet a user-friendly scoring tool—one that has proven its worth over time.

The scoring guides (rubrics) will provide you with the knowledge of how to score trait writing.

  • 6+1 Trait® Writing Across Content Areas Institute for Grades 3–12

    Education Northwest’s 6+1 Trait® Writing Model of Instruction & Assessment is a powerful framework designed to help all teachers and students use a common language to refer to characteristics of writing, as well as create a common vision of what quality writing looks like.

  • 6+1 Trait® Writing Institute for Trait Presenters

    This advanced institute is for trait-experienced literacy coaches, teacher leaders, administrators, and curriculum coordinators wishing to conduct their own in-district, 6+1 Trait trainings. Participants should have already taken a 6+1 Trait Writing workshop and have used the 6+1 Trait Writing model in the classroom.
