Bernie Sorenson has an expansive career leading schools, districts and state departments in Alaska and Montana. Her passion is in helping educators gain the tools and techniques that simultaneously develop individuals, teams and systems. She is deeply aware of the fact that most of us, and the systems we work in, are framed around a world that no longer exists. As a facilitator of learning and growth, Bernie takes seriously the need to constantly learn new and innovative practices herself.
She has used a blended coaching process in her work with state, school and district leaders to enable them to innovate and become more collaborative. She was instrumental in the out-of-the box design of Alaska’s ESSA stakeholder input process that used online platforms to help Alaska engage stakeholders across the state. At the school level, Bernie led a team of educators in the development a of highly engaging and personalized after-school credit-recovery program that increased the district graduation rate significantly.
In her role of supporting schools, districts, and state agencies at Education Northwest, she is excited about helping you create cultures of innovation in your organizations.
“Collaboration is vital to sustain what we call profound or really deep change, because without it, organizations are just overwhelmed by the forces of the status quo.” —Peter Senge
