Unlocking the Power of ADAS for Driver Education Instructors
PARTNER: Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC)
We partnered with the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC) to design and develop a self-paced eLearning series that provides driver education instructors across Washington state with a comprehensive understanding of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). ADAS include features like Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and Blind Spot Monitoring. The goal of the series is to promote safer driving practices statewide.
EDNW worked closely with WTSC’s subject matter experts to review existing training materials, update learning objectives, and align the content with best practices in instructional design. This ensured the course resonated with a diverse audience including driving instructors, instructor trainers, and driving school owners.
The modules include a variety of interactive elements built in Articulate Storyline—such as branching scenarios, tab interactions, accordion menus, text-entry reflection questions, and assessments with real-time feedback—to engage users and enhance the learning experience. Closed-captioned videos were embedded to illustrate real-world ADAS applications and demonstrate the life-saving potential of these systems. To maintain flexibility for future updates, the course also features AI-generated narration, allowing WTSC to easily update content as ADAS technologies and traffic safety laws evolve. We also created a learning management system implementation guide for WTSC to ensure seamless integration and reporting by streamlining the process of configuring, creating, and uploading SCORM packages.
