Teaching the Craft of Writing

Jacqueline Raphael | July 17, 2019

Summer is a time of reflection, and Jacqueline Raphael has the teaching of writing on her mind.

For teachers with young writers in their classes, she suggests to forget for a moment about pre-packaged handouts and instead to consider teaching writing as a craft. She describes on our blog what a craft-centered approach to writing instruction might look like.

"It’s the messy effort and missteps, as well as the persistence and instructive conversation to better understand how to put on the page what you’re trying to convey, that makes the craft of writing a journey with a destination in mind," she writes.
