The Nelson Scholarship strives to increase Native representation in education leadership by providing financial support, mentoring, and internships for Native students in the Northwest who are pursuing a graduate degree in education policy, leadership, technical assistance, research or a closely related field.
Twila Miner (Oglala Lakota) never expected her work to focus on financial aid. But from her position as a student and an employee at Montana State University, Twila realized there was a gap in financial supports for Native students. Today, Twila uses her unique vantage point to explore the experiences of Native students as they navigate paying for college一and to help them along the way.
The Nelson scholarship supports Native graduate students focused on education. Applications for the 2022 award close on March 31.
