Homelessness & Housing Insecurity Among Community College Students

First-Ever Longitudinal Evaluation of a Housing Choice Voucher Program
How can community colleges, nonprofit partners, and state and federal government leaders address the crisis of homelessness and housing insecurity among community college students? Learn from a longitudinal evaluation—the first of its kind—of the College Housing Assistance Program in Tacoma, Washington. The results show that housing matters not only for education but also for students’ labor force participation, health and well-being, and interactions with the criminal justice system. But housing programs must do more to ensure that students are able to access stable housing. Researchers and practitioners will discuss the results, featured in a new paper, and explore implications. The evaluation was funded by the Kresge Foundation, Arnold Ventures, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
