Reflecting on What Latinx Culture Brings to Public Education

By Rosie Santana | September 25, 2018

During Hispanic Heritage Month, Rosie Santana considers the contributions of Latinx culture to public education. She discusses how many current school priorities—such as, instilling social belonging in students to building relationships to striving for group success—are hallmarks of Latinx culture. As an Education Northwest technical assistance provider, she describes what her culture means to the way she approaches her work and the influence her father had in helping her see the value of family, friends and collective wisdom.

Building Capacity

School systems must have high expectations for English learner students and engage them with compelling, grade-appropriate language and content. Education Northwest can help you build your capacity to set high standards for English learner students, support them, and ensure they realize their full potential.

Program Evaluation

Evaluating EL Programs

We will partner with you to evaluate your English learner programs. We will examine various areas to answer important questions: How are your curricula implemented and your data gathered? What are your reclassification patterns? Do English learner students and their families feel welcomed at your schools?

English-language Development

Are you looking to design an evidence-based program for English-language development that meets the needs of your school or district? Our consultant teams can help you design your programs and build your capacity to provide teachers the professional development needed to make your program a success.
